APRIL
Friday 16th – Friday 23rd
An escorted painting trip to the Italian island of Sardinia with tutor Fergal Flanagan. Based in Alghero at the Hotel El Balear , overlooking the sea. Mediaeval streetscapes, semitropical vegetation and rugged terrain provide numerous painting locations. Further details from trip co-ordinator, Chris O’Neill.


 

MAY
Friday 30th April – Monday 3rd May (3 day course)
GRAHAME BOOTH – Watercolour Landscapes of the Burren and Clare Coast.

This experienced, successful artist was past president of the Ulster Watercolour Society and finalist in Channel 4’s popular series “Watercolour Challenge”. He has received many awards. Preferring to work ‘en plein air’, Graham tries to capture the sounds and smells as well as the visual elements around him. An enthusiastic, inspiring tutor. Course suitable for all levels.

Friday 14th –Sunday 16th ( 2 day course)
YANNY PETERS – Landscape Painting in Oils for Beginners.

After initially training as a sign-writer and gilder, Yanny has now been painting  full time for the past 17 years. She is fascinated by colour, form and detail, putting her talents to painting studies that include wild plant themes. Her work also reflects her interest in “tromp l’eoil” techniques and paintings of the Dutch Masters. She is a popular teacher of adults, giving individual attention to each person. Suitable for beginners.

4th Annual Outdoor Landscape Painting Competition Weekend

Friday 21st – Sunday 23rd 

A weekend of art for amateur painters. A Painting Demonstration on Friday evening 21st May. Plein Air Landscape Painting Competition on Saturday 22nd May. Drawing Workshop on Sunday morning 23rd May , followed by the prize giving and lunch. Contact Chris O'Neill at info@burrenpaintingcentre.com

Friday 28th – Monday 31st (3 day course)
JILL WINCH – Botanical Illustration of Fruits and Flora in Watercolour (Mainly studio work with visit to a garden of special interest).

Jill trained as a graphic artist, then continued her studies in Botanical Art. She achieved her Diploma from the Chelsea Physic Garden in London. She exhibits regularly, conducts adult classes and demonstrates to Art Societies. Her friendly, enthusiastic approach and ability to teach at all levels make her a popular tutor. She encourages her students to achieve new levels of skill. Course suitable for all abilities.


 

JUNE
Friday 4th – Monday 7th (3 day course)
JAMIE OGILVIE - Burren Landscapes in Oils or Acrylics.

Having trained at the Royal Academy Schools in London, Jamie then spent many years teaching and tutoring adult classes. This talented and versatile artist now paints full time in Sussex. He exhibits at the New English Art Club and many galleries. A patient and helpful tutor, with a deep knowledge of art, builds confidence in his students, with reassuring instruction and demonstrations. Suitable for all levels.

Friday 11th – Monday 14th  (3 day course)
ANNELISE PIO HANSEN - Watercolour Techniques in the Burren.

This Danish artist is an experienced watercolourist who enjoys teaching her skills. She is a thorough and enthusiastic tutor, demonstrating many techniques and motivating her students to achieve great results. She writes for Danish and U.K. art magazines. She runs classes in Copenhagen and has tutored workshops in Sweden, Scotland and Tuscany. She loves painting on location and captures the soft light of her local landscape using subtle colours. Course suitable for beginners and improvers.

Tuesday 15th – Friday 18th  ( 3 day course)
ANNELISE PIO HANSEN – Painting the Seascapes and Rockscapes of Inisheer.

See previous description of tutor. Annelise will teach various watercolour techniques, whilst staying on the island of Inisheer, the smallest of the Aran Islands, just 7 miles from the Clare coast. The Doolin ferry  crossing takes 45 minutes. The group will stay with Brid Poil in her B&B Radharc An Chlair, for accommodation and meals.

Saturday 19th – Monday 21st (2 day course)
VINCENT LAMBE – Landscapes in Oils ,Watercolours or Acrylics.

Vincent trained at the National College of Art and Design, followed by Art Schools in New York. His mentors were Sean Keating, Maurice McGonigal and John F.Kelly. He worked in advertising in both Dublin and New York. He is an active member of the Dublin Art Clubs and Societies, current President of the Watercolour Society. He exhibits regularly countrywide and at the R.H.A. He is comfortable teaching in oils, acrylic or watercolour. Course suitable for improvers or experienced painters.

Friday 25th – Wednesday 30th (4 day course)
FERGAL FLANAGAN – Rockscapes of the Burren and Seascapes on Inisheer.

This dual course uses 2 locations, 2 days in the Burren and 2 days on Inisheer, the smallest of the Aran Islands. Fergal is a full time professional artist ,working from the Glengarragh studios in Wicklow. He paints in oil, gouache and watercolour using a vibrant palette. A helpful, down to earth tutor, who loves painting ‘en plein air’, using the direct painting technique. Committee member of the Dublin Painting and Sketching Club. Exhibits throughout Ireland and demonstrates to Art Clubs. Course suitable for improvers and experienced painters, in oil, gouache, w/clr, pastel.


 

JULY
Saturday 3rd – Saturday 10th (6 day course)
VALERIE CRAIG - Capturing the Beauty of Light in Oils.

Valerie strives to inspire her students with the fundamentals of painting ”en plein air”. Her teaching includes composition, perspective and colour values, also the interpretation of light and atmosphere. She demonstrates on site. Her infectious enthusiasm and energy create an atmosphere of adventure and builds confidence in her students. She exhibits regularly in Pennsylvania and the USA and has won many prestigious awards. Course suitable for beginners and improvers.

Tuesday 13th – Friday 16th (3 day course)
ROSEMARY HALE – The Pastel Approach to Landscapes.

Rosemary is a professional artist based in Staffordshire. She combines her natural teaching ability with her enthusiasm for painting when tutoring a course. She aims to create an informal and enjoyable learning environment, with masterly demonstrations showing different techniques and materials. Course suitable for beginners and improvers.

Saturday 17th – Tuesday 20th (3 day course)
ROSEMARY HALE – Watercolour Techniques in the Burren.

Rosemary gives her paintings a sense of time and place, incorporating atmosphere and movement in her work. She teaches year round from her own studio, demonstrates to painting groups and writes articles for Leisure Painter magazine. She is a sympathetic and helpful tutor. Course suitable for beginners and improvers.

N.B. 6 day courses may be booked in 3 day modules, the first or second half of the week.

Saturday 24th – Saturday 31st  (6 day course)
JAMIE OGILVIE – Burren Landscapes in Oils or Pastel.

Jamie is a versatile artist who loves to record all features of the landscape. He will demonstrate in both mediums helping with your techniques and composition. Course suitable for all abilities. See earlier entry for further details.


 

AUGUST
Saturday 7th – Saturday 14th (6 day course)
OLIVIA HAYES – Watercolour Techniques in the Burren.

After Olivia graduated from the National College of Art and Design, Dublin she continued her studies at the University of Oslo and in Florence, Italy. She also obtained a post-grad qualification in teaching. She is a popular tutor of adult classes in Dublin and painting holidays abroad. She now works as a full time artist and exhibits regularly. Many of her works are in collections worldwide. She is an active member of the Watercolour Society and the Dublin Painting and Sketching Club. Course suitable for all abilities.

Saturday 14th – Saturday 21st (6 day course)
DOROTHEE ROBERTS – Landscapes of North Clare in Oils, Acrylic or Watercolour.

Dorothee completed her art training at L’Ecole Superiure d’Art in Paris. She exhibits regularly throughout Ireland and runs classes from her studio in Carrigaline, Co Cork. She aims to simplify the subject matter and pays particular attention to colour, design and atmosphere of the painting. She is a patient, helpful tutor teaching with commitment and enthusiasm. Her demonstrations on site are most instructive. Course suitable for beginners and improvers.

Saturday 21st – Monday 23rd  (3 day course)
BARBARA BARRETT – Landscapes and Flowers in Watercolour.

Barabara  enjoys teaching people the skills of watercolour painting and demonstrates regularly for Art Clubs and Societies. She has taught watercolour techniques in Ireland, England, France and South Africa. She aims to capture the special light of the Irish landscape and is equally proficient painting the translucent and delicate beauty of flowers. Her enthusiastic approach motivates her students to achieve great results. She exhibits regularly throughout Ireland in galleries and at Art Fairs. Course suitable for all abilities.


 

OVERSEAS IN AUGUST
August 28th – September 4th
An escorted painting trip to Lanquedoc, South of France with Gayle Fedigan. Painting in pastels. Details from trip co-ordinator, Chris O’Neill.

OVERSEAS IN OCTOBER
October 2nd - 9th
An escorted painting trip with Tutor Dorothee Roberts to Tuscany, Italy painting in waterbased mediums.
