If you are looking for an enjoyable learning experience , The Burren Painting Centre offers you a great choice of tutored painting courses in watercolour , oil , acrylic or pastel. The emphasis is on painting landscapes or seascapes , outdoors on location.
The Irish and international tutors , all experts in their own discipline are here to help you improve your painting techniques . Most teach through demonstrations, hands on individual tuition and critiques , assisting beginners , improvers and more experienced painters.
The subject matter is varied from day to day with most locations within a 10 mile radius from Lisdoonvarna town. The experience of painting ‘en plein air’ is new for many people , but the locations are chosen to suit the weather conditions and capabilities within the group. The rockscapes of the Burren present the biggest challenge , but the coastal scenes of harbours , beaches and cliffs offer a contrast of form and palette. Streetscapes of Kilfenora ,Ennistymon and Lisdoonvarna are also very popular.
The studio space is used for back up in case of poor weather and for exhibitions of work and end of course critiques . Painters have access to the studio facilities from early morning until late evening, with a free tea and coffee making corner . Portable easels and stools may be hired and a range of art materials are on sale each morning. DVD’s, magazines and reference books all add to the art experience and creative atmosphere of the Burren Painting Centre .
Accommodation:
Course participants can book their accommodation at O'Neills
or may attend as a non-resident on a daily basis. Non-painters
are also welcome to stay at O'Neills. O'Neills retains the
atmosphere and character of the old family home built at the
turn of the last century by John's great grandfather, Thomas
Madigan. During the past 30 years John and Chris O'Neill have
devoted much of their attention to upgrading the facilities
for the comfort of their guests. The private car park, adjacent
to the studio at the rear of the house provides secure guest
parking.
Irish Landscapes:
An extensive collection of oils, watercolours, acrylics
and pastels may be viewed at the Burren Painting Centre
- works by many of the tutors.
